Literature Update — October 2009

This regular e-update is provided by the Academy to raise awareness of current research in orthotics and prosthetics outside of the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics (JPO).

Search terms used were "orthotic devices" and "artificial limbs"
for the period of October 2009.
Results were edited for clinical relevance.

This article is a review in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery of recent events within orthopaedic rehabilitation. There is a section on Amputation Surgery including the bone bridge procedure and immeadiate post operative care. Other sections include topics such as motion analysis and electromyography, treatment of CP, heterotopic ossification, spinal cord injury, effects of diabetes on the lower extremity, and chronic wounds.
